Week of July 7th
Had anothe3r fine week of fishing, but the waters are warming up, which means you need to go deeper to find the fish.
At Hagg Lake, I recommend you drop down 20-50'. There are still some very nice fish in this lake. Three over 20", were brought into the Lake Stop Store to be weighed, this week.
At Promontory the fish are plentiful, but small. Most of the fish are in the 8-10" range. So it's time to break out the ultra light fishing gear.
6/15/08 Fathers Day
It was great to have a father and two grown sons on the boat on Fathers Day. We were back at Hagg Lake for another successful trip. I am happy to report that Dad caught the first couple of fish, but he had a problem keeping the fish on all the way to the boat. This was a regular theme that day. We had over 30 hook-ups, but only managed to land 10. It was a wonderful way to experience Father's Day.
6/14/08 Multnomah County Correction OfficersMultnomah County correction officers put on an annual fishing event for physically disabled and mentally challenged children and adults. The event is always the Saturday before Fathers Day. I was invited this year to help with the kids. We had a wonderful time at Hagg Lake. The water is in the low 60's and the fish were hungry! I ran 8 groups of 5-8 passengers. Each trip was approx 45 min., so we had to work fast. Most everyone caught fish, and seemed to have a great time on the water.
I was fortunate to have three young men in wheelchairs that had never been on the water before. It took the effort of 4-6 volunteers to lift the wheelchairs on board; and the Washington County Medical team, which patrols the lake, assisted us with an escort of jet skis for safety sake. Their assistants told me these young men thought it was amazingly wonderful to be on the boat!
Thank you Multnomah County Correction Officers for allowing me to help!
6/4/08 Dream Life Today
I took a party of 4 from Dream Life. We went to North Fork Lake, just 3
miles East of Estacada. The lake is well stocked, but the water has
been running cold due to all the snow melt on Mt Hood. Wendesday was no
different. The water was only 43 degrees. 55 degree water is optimal
for Trout. So catching was tough. At one point, the screen on my fish
finder was full of fish, but they just would not bite. We pick up a
few, but needed to go to a new location to get into the fish. The group
ended up taking home over 20 fish, and we released at least 15 more. It
was a great day.
Dream Life is a wonderful organization. They
are a private club who provides RV equipment like Boats, Motor Homes,
Quads and other recreational items. It is much less expensive then
owning it on your own. Pleaswe check out their

7/3/08
Had two great trips today at
Promontory Park out of Estacada. We started off with finding small fish
6-8" range. There were plenty of fish, but we wanted some larger fish.
It was a little challenging because of the thunderstorm , which rolled
through the night before. But we finally got into some nice fish. My
morning trip took home 11 Trout for 3 passengers. My afternoon trip
kept 7 fish for 2 fishermen. Not quite as good as usual, but we also
caught other smaller fish.
Be careful as you fish this lake,
because you can also catch Salmon & Steelhead smelt. They are 3-5"
long right now. If you catch one, be careful to release it unharmed, so
you can have a chance to catch it again in 3 years. If you catch a
small fish, but it has swallowed the hook, just cut the line. God has
designed fish with enzymes to dissolve the hook. In most cases the fish
will live to be caught another day.
